Floyd Skoot

I just got back from a River city writing, by Floyd Skoot! It was down on Main Street which at first I thought was going to be a struggle trying to get there and find parking but it turned out to be a very fun night! I rode with Christa, Emily and Jen and we parked for free right down the street! It was really neat listening to Mr. Skoot talk not only because he was Rebecca, the director of the River city writing program daughter, but also because I felt like I was apart of something famous! As if it was only for high tech writers and I was aloud in to listen! My favorite poem he read was the poem about his daughter Rebecca. It reminded me of the poem my dad wrote for my older sister, Ashley, when she got married. It was amazing to here all the struggles he has been through with his brain disease and yet still is able to write such great works. He explained now the hardest struggle he has to overcome everyday is just the extreme, extra work he has to do to convert short term memory to long term memory. Something our brains do every second without realizing it! I also loved the snacks they had! That was a definite plus!

I also thought that was so neat how Floyd Skloot taught himself how to remember things. I already have a hard time remembering things and I know how annoying it can be. I cannot imagine not being able to remember anything. It really would make life hard. You could tell that he is a really strong person just by hearing the things he has overcome.
